This sumptuous arrangement by Thistle and Honey features Icelandic poppies, dahlia, garden roses, veronica, mimosa acacia, ranunculus, sweet pea, and bay leaf. Floral Designer Shannon Mahoney says it’s ideal for “a free spirit with a bright and cheery personality – a bride who wants something unique and not too stuffy.”

Mahoney describes her typical bridal customer as one who appreciates good design, uniqueness and seasonal flowers, “someone who is a lover of nature and the flowers are an important aspect of their wedding.” As her first year in business comes to a close, she says it’s her aesthetic that sets her apart from other floral designers. “My designs are often trailing and garden-like,” she explains. “I shy away from perfectly round arrangements and traditional choices.” In keeping with her eco-chic vibe, Mahoney makes her best effort to work with local and seasonal flowers whenever possible and avoid the use of floral foam.

Although she predicts blush color palettes will continue to dominate arrangements in 2014, Mahoney expects design-savvy brides will also draw inspiration from Pantone’s color of the year. “Wedding industry professionals are gaga over… Radiant Orchid,” she shares, “so I am sure we will be seeing a lot of that!”
