Donna Beck Photography (100 of 1)

Tell us a little about your company? I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer. Weddings are awesome, so much fun and joy all in one days work. I love my job. I am one lucky girl to do what I do.

When did you establish your business? 2008.

What professional organizations are you a member of? I am a member of PPA and WPPI.

Can you share a funny/embarrassing/touching story about one of your clients? I recently had a client contact me about ordering prints from a wedding 5 years ago. I was obviously happy to do so, but thought it was strange they wanted more prints now, especially when they had a large order after the wedding. When I contacted her to chat she shared with me that her father-in-law recently passed away and they really didn’t have many pictures of him besides that of their wedding day. It was then I realized that the value of photographs is so much more than just a wedding day.

Where do you find inspiration? Everywhere…I love browsing through magazines, looking at billboards and I admit I, I am HOOKED on Pinterest. Now if I can just organize my house like my Pinterest boards, I would be in good shape.

What trend do you see coming for weddings this year? Navy blue, pink, grey seem to be wedding color trends. And thanks to Downtown Abbey, I think there will be the return of a formal type event with a black tie and all. Themes will still be a big part of weddings as it really customizes and makes the day a reflection of the couple.

Do you regularly blog? Yes, visit my blog here.

Are you on social media? Yes, follow me on Facebook here, Twitter here and Pinterest here.

What’s your favorite local restaurant? I love Yard House, but it’s as much the environment as it is anything. I really enjoying hanging out with friends, watching a good game on TV and some good eats and drinks.

What’s your favorite local charity? The Placer County Breast Endowment. It’s a great cause and serves women locally.

What is your favorite fun thing to do locally? I love to shop. I find that I am getting a hang of this couponing thing too. It’s more of a sport to me. It’s a rush when I get a great deal!

Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it? Nothing Bundt Cakes, Red Velvet. Hands down.

Do you have any hidden talents? I do love to scrapbook. I find it’s really relaxing and let’s me be creative too. I started when my girls were born and I pretty much document their lives through the camera and some journaling too. It’s fun and I love to get together with girlfriends when doing it. Of course a lot of the time is spent chatting, but that’s half the fun.

If you weren’t in the business that you are in now, what other business/profession would you have liked to have done? Funny you ask that. I actually worked for a Fortune 10 Company in sales management for 13 years before finding photography. It was a great experience and I really loved the people and working with people. But, I also worked a lot of nights and traveled too. It made me realize that even though I loved the job, it sacrificed my time with family. As a result I would love to say I found photography, but really, it found me. I wouldn’t change a thing. I love my job.

If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what element(s) would be most important to you? I would have hired a better photographer…HA!

What advice would you can give to brides and grooms getting married today? Have fun with the process and you can never test out to many bakeries.
