The Couple: Whitney & Tom

Tell us a little about you and your beloved: We met through work back in the fall of 2001. There was an instant mutual attraction and interest, but the timing never worked out for a relationship. We took different paths professionally and stayed in contact for awhile but eventually went our separate ways. Then in February 2011, we reconnected through a text which thankfully neither of us had changed our phone numbers in 10 years! We met up for dinner two nights later and the timing was finally right.
We had been dating for 3 years when Tom proposed Christmas morning of 2014. We had opened all our gifts and were getting ready to leave when he tells me there is one more gift. I turn around and there’s the little ring box. He got down on one knee and proposed. It was perfect timing as we got to tell all our family and friends in person over the holiday weekend.
The planning of the wedding was mostly the bride’s doing. The groom’s only concerns were the food and budget. He got the food. Being the bride, I had a vision for our big day and he was perfectly fine with whatever I wanted to do. It was certainly a lot more work than I expected and at times didn’t find the planning enjoyable but it was well worth it. At the end of our wedding, he told me how impressed he was with the whole event, how well it all came together and what a great day it was. I couldn’t agree more. It was a beautiful start to the rest of our lives together. It took us 14 years to get to where we are and we both couldn’t be happier.
What was the most amazing part of your day? Bride: Seeing all the hard work pay off and my dream day come true. Groom: The food was amazing. Both: Being able to share the day with all our friends and family.
What else would you like to share about your big day? Bride: I have truly never seen my groom genuinely smile so much and be so happy. That made all the planning worth it and makes for one of the best memories of the day for me.

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now? Pick the most important elements to you for your wedding. Ours was food and photography. You never want to run out of food and you want to make sure the food is good. Our guests and my groom are still raving about our food. I also chose photography as that will more than likely be the way I remember the day as it goes by so fast and something we can look at 50 years from now. I wanted to make sure to have 2 photographers to get more coverage of our day. We couldn’t have picked better photographers than Scott and Dana! They were so easy to work with and their work is simply stunning.
Lastly, deep breath, it’ll all get done one way or another. And if it doesn’t, the day will still be amazing and no one will know!
Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance? I wish I would have taken a few moments to go around and look at all the setup and décor before guests arrived and take it all in but thankfully our photographers captured all of it. And I also wish we both would have gotten more time to relax leading up to the big day. We were both exhausted before the reception was over.
