Welcome back to 10-Movie Inspired Gowns, part Two of the “For Your Review” blog series based on our popular column in Real Weddings Magazine by columnist Sharon Penny.

Which dress did you love from Sharon’s 10 Movie-Inspired Wedding Gowns? A personal favorite of mine is Katharine Ross’s wedding dress in The Graduate, but no matter which one you love, you can find a modern twist on the dress from one of our local bridal shops. Read on to see our modern interpretations and where to find them.

If you like Audrey Hepburn’s gown in Funny Face, try this dress from Always Elegant Bridal & Tuxedo

This look speaks to the bride who has a fondness for the simplicity of years past. Raise your hand if that’s you (my hand is raised). Swap out the high neckline and cap sleeves for a sweetheart neckline like this dress from Always Elegant Bridal & Tuxedo and you have a modern take on an absolute classic.

Sleeves, lace and off the shoulder – oh my! Any modern bride will look classically beautiful in this gown from House of Fashion. Plus, who wouldn’t want to look like Katharine Ross?

If you like Julie Andrews’ gown in The Sound of Music, try this dress from De La Rosa’s Bridal & Tuxedos

Lets face it: no bride can pull off a collar AND long sleeves for their wedding dress, unless you’re Julie Andrews of course, but this silk gown from De La Rosa’s Bridal & Tuxedos harks back to the pristine beauty of that simplicity. Let yourself breath with a v-neck and straps, add just a bit of sparkle at the waist and you’ll be ready to marry the Christopher Plummer of your dreams. (In my dream, he’s the Captain von Trapp Christopher Plummer. Swoon.)

If you like Robin Wright’s gown in The Princess Bride, try this dress from Diamond Bridal Gallery

Princess Buttercup’s medieval dress may have been in style then, but now, not so much. To update this one, we looked to Diamond Bridal Gallery with an updated plunging neckline with sleeves, and lace and subtle bead accents. Oh, and I’m confident that, if you needed to, you can successfully run away with your one true love in this dress.

If you like Gwyneth Paltrow’s gown in Emma, try this dress from The Clothes Mine Bridal And Formalwear

Not everyone looks as stunning as Gwen in a regency-style gown, but this more form fitting gown with cap sleeves from The Clothes Mine Bridal and Formalwear will look just as stunning. Keep the flowers in your hair for a true feeling of romance.

If you like Rachel McAdams’ gown in About Time, try this dress Always Elegant Bridal & Tuxedo

Can we all take a second to appreciate a red wedding gown? Although risky for most, the simplicity of it can also be seen in this gown from Always Elegant Bridal & Tuxedo. The short sleeves, lace detail and side cutouts add gorgeous detail to this jaw-dropping gown.

If you like Drew Barrymore’s gown in Ever After, try this dress from Second Summer Bride

Wings are hard to come by as a wedding gown accompaniment these days, but if you’re wanting to make a statement, how about a cape? This gown from Second Summer Bride has all the makings of a fairytale worthy gown: pure white, floor length, beading and sparkle in just the right places and, of course, that gorgeous cape.

If you like Jennifer Lawrence’s gown in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, try this dress from The Bridal Box

It’s hard to find a dress as show-stopping as Katniss Everdeen’s, but this beauty from The Bridal Box has just enough poof and sparkle to make jaws drop. The low-cut top with a perfect pattern of crystals will surely have you volunteering as tribute to wear this gown.

If you like Jennifer Connelly’s in Labyrinth, try this dress from Second Summer Bride

What’s more breathtaking then Jennifer Connelly’s wedding gown in Labyrinth? This stunning gold ball gown with intricate detail on the bodice from Second Summer Bride. Who says you have to wear white on your wedding day? I’m sure David Bowie would approve.

If you like Julia Roberts’ gown in Steel Magnolias, try this dress from Alma’s Bridal Boutique

Julia Roberts’s blush accents on her wedding dress are appreciated, but better suited as the color of the gown, and not just as an accent. Cue this stunner from Alma’s Bridal Boutique. The hint of color in this dress is gorgeous, and a flowing, lace skirt to boot!

If you like Stephanie Seymour’s gown in November Rain by Guns N’ Roses, try this dress from SPARKLE Bridal Couture

Brides who are unwilling to take a big risk like Stephanie Seymour, might find comfort in the fact that SPARKLE Bridal Couture has those who want to make a subtle statement covered. This strapless high-low dress is beautiful on it’s own, but also pairs nicely with almost any accessory.
