How Kim and Andrew met could be the opening scene of the next best romantic comedy. Andrew and his friends loved to sing karaoke classics at The Distillery in Sacramento. One Friday evening, before starting their third and final year of law school, Andrew and his friends found themselves at The Distillery yet again. That same night, Kim and her friends made their way there as well. They noticed that the place was empty—with the exception of three guys singing karaoke. When it was Andrew’s turn to sing, he selected Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Kim couldn’t help but laugh at the rendition and decided to record it on her phone. Andrew caught on and thought it was his queue to go talk to her. And as they say in the movies, “the rest is history.”
A couple of years later, the couple was enjoying a quiet day at home and started talking about future plans. It was a sweet and effortless conversation. The next thing Kim knew, Andrew had gotten down from the sofa and was on one knee asking for her hand in marriage. Kim was certainly surprised and caught off guard, but it was Andrew who was most surprised. This was not the proposal he had been planning, but says the moment felt too perfect to pass up.
Kim and Andrew both consider themselves to be low-key and wanted their wedding to reflect that. By keeping their wedding focused on who they are, they were able to incorporate personal touches into just about every detail of the day, including a “hand holding” ceremony, where Kim and Andrew held hands as their officiant described the significance of their hands as a married couple. They also used recycled beer and wine bottles as centerpieces, did an eco-friendly wildflower toss at the end of the night, and had graham crispy treat favors to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Graham (get it?).
There were some great impromptu karaoke moments as well, including “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Don’t Stop Believin’,” and—while Andrew left the singing to The King this time—they did share their first dance to “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
