Tell us a little about you and your beloved: Eric and I met 8 years ago in San Jose while attending SJSU. After 4 years of dating, we had to start a long distance relationship, I was going to grad school in Florida and he stayed in California to work. While it was challenging, the distance made us so much stronger.

Hiking and backpacking is one of our favorite things to do, and during one of my breaks Eric proposed to me in Yosemite in front of 40 random strangers and secretly recorded the whole thing! Planning a wedding while finishing grad school was not easy, but I had so much amazing help from friends and family in California to help book vendors and tour venues.

I didn’t even taste my wedding food before it was booked! My husband took his mother and I trusted their taste buds enough! Trusting in the process and relying on friends really made the difference planning a wedding from across the country.

What was the most amazing part of your day? Besides having our wedding at an absolutely beautiful and perfect venue for what we wanted, my uncle officiating our ceremony. He included so many personal touches, got our guests involved, and made sure to insert the occasional joke to help us stop crying! He became an officiant just for us, and included so many special personal touches for our ceremony, he even interviewed Eric and I separately and told us not to talk to each other about our answers so he could incorporate our story into the ceremony.

What else would you like to share about your big day? We had such a great time dancing the night away. Our dancing was originally going to be held inside the barn but due to the heat, we last minute choose to move it outside. I was so worried that the dance area would feel separated and no one would dance, but our dj definitely knew how to get the guests involved and our dance floor was so fun and full the whole night!

First Dance Song: “Head Over Boots” Jon Pardi

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now? My best advice is to go with your gut, so many people told us to interview as many vendors or djs or photographers as possible. I definitely did my online research but my husband and I often ended up choosing the first vendor we interviewed! You can’t deny a connection and if you both get along well and have the same vision for your big day, go with what your heart is telling you!

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance? We found a venue that allowed a later end time (ours was 10 p.m.) because no one wanted the night to end!
