Real Weddings – WS15

Well, what is in a name? When I joined this family 14 years ago, I kept my own last name. No, it wasn’t really a “feminist” statement per se, it was just my name. My personal feeling has always been, “Why should getting married change that?” I admit, I caught a little gentle ribbing from some friends and family, but it did make me question: Does not changing my name make me any less devoted to this family, or does it make me any less a part of this family? The short answer for me: absolutely not. Keeping my own last name was, and is, important to me, but what is more important is my love and devotion to this family. Fast forward to today, and our family has grown—and now includes many more last names. We’ve got Sipples, Carrolls, McGowans, and Herreras—and the love overflows from each of them. So while you ponder whether to change your last name, come up with a new one (like Real Groom Models Dakota and Chris who star in our “Rat Pack Revisited” feature), or keep yours, do it with conviction and devotion to your newly created family. Let’s get your journey to that new family started now, shall we?

What’s in store for you in this issue of Real Weddings Magazine? Weddings, weddings and (yes!) more weddings! DIY weddings? Check. Bling weddings? Check. Fun and funky weddings? We’ve got you covered—with 34 real weddings here in the magazine (and even more on our website!), there’s something for everyone. The eye candy bonanza starts on page 119.

Speaking of eye candy…let’s talk décor inspiration. In this issue, we’ve got three features for you: “Vintage Gone Glam,” “Rat Pack Revisited” and “Farm to Fork.” We’re so honored (and immensely thankful!) to partner with three extraordinary teams—made up of some of the best and most talented wedding pros in the local area—to put these three features together for you—specifically to inspire you!
Our resident “Always a Bridesmaid” columnist Darren Elms talks with Lora Ward and Kendra Pfeiffer Wershing on some of this season’s trends and making them work for your wedding; our “For Your Review” columnist Sharon Penny presents you with a plethora of planning tools and playlist ideas; our “Gift Guide” will help you check everyone off of your gift list (and dare we suggest, pick up a gift for yourself?); and not just one “Expert Advice” article, but three in this issue (and more online!)—start on page 43!

And, finally, let’s talk cover model finalists! Each issue, hundreds of local real brides enter our contest, and we pick three to be our “models.” These beautiful women enthusiastically get to play dress up with us for our fashion feature. This issue, Liz, Allison and Catherine, are our cover model finalists who gave it their all. Check it out starting on page 87 (and tune in to our website for even more photos from their “Garden Party” feature!).

As always, dear readers, happy planning!
