Ok, I love this so I had to post about them.

Meet Pete and Andrea, residents of Spokane, WA, who hope to get married July 31 of this year. Their expectations for their wedding are really quite simple: potluck, DIY decorations, homemade cake, etc. But, as you brides know, even the smallest things ad up quickly.

So, to help manage the cost (about $3,800-$4,000), the couple are collecting cans…LOTS of cans…400,000 to be exact. Yep, they are paying for their wedding by aluminum recycling. So cool!

By recycling five tons of cans, they will be saving about 50 tons of carbon emissions – enough to offset five years of their emissions plus extra for the impact of the wedding itself.

But collecting five tons of aluminum cans is no easy task for just two people. To help in the effort, they’ve engaged not only their community, but the population at large. While the fine citizens of Spokane can go to their local recycling centers, they are asking others to donate their cans in their own cities and “kick a few of the proceeds” their way.

For all cash donations they will figure the number of cans that equal the amount and add to their growing total. As of this blog posting they are at 109,647 cans or 27% of their goal. They have less than seven months to collect enough aluminum to throw their wedding…why not raid your recycling bin and help them out!
