Camp Nauvoo
Tell us a little about your company? Camp Nauvoo is a beautiful outdoor venue located outside of Placerville. It consists of 85 acres including a year-round creek, lodge, restroom facilities and beautiful natural surroundings. Our focus is on family reunions, weddings, group and corporate events.
When did you establish your business? We bought the property in the Fall of 2016 and have spent the last year renovating the property.
What sets you apart from your competition? We are not just a place that you have a wedding, but you can customize the experience to what works for you. You can have your wedding, invite your guests to stay over camping or simply enjoy time around the very large campfire bowl. It’s not just an event but a customized experience. We even have glamping tents for the bride and groom.
Where do you find inspiration? Both Greg and Laurie have a love of the outdoors. We envision this being what we do into retirement.
What trend do you see coming for weddings this year and beyond? Weddings today are unique experiences – our site is attractive to those that love the outdoors. This provides an opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
What’s your favorite comment/compliment that one of your clients has given you/your business? We opened up on Memorial Day and our customers love our focus on making their time enjoyable. Camp Nauvoo is all about bringing family and friends together in beautiful natural surroundings.
What is your favorite fun thing to do locally? We are located in the foothills so there are many hikes, swimming holes and gold mining sites to visit. Sometimes we even driven up to Tahoe for breakfast – less than an hour.
What’s your favorite local charity? Child Abuse Prevention Council. We are passionate about protecting the most vulnerable – children.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? There are so many unique options in Placerville but if we had to narrow down to one it would be PizzaBene. Try any of their pizzas and substitute olive oil instead of tomato sauce – it’s the best.
Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it? Greg is passionate about his popcorn with lots of butter!
Do you have any hidden talents? This new business venture is creating many opportunities for new learnings especially around social media. Greg is all about the customer experience so he’s what makes it all work.
If you weren’t in the business that you are in now, what other business/profession would you have liked to have done? Laurie is still working and is passionate about healthcare.
If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what element(s) would be most important to you? We were married in a very similar environment in Tahoe except we couldn’t hold our wedding and reception at the same location. We have fixed that with our venue.
What advice would you can give to soon-to-be-married couples? Happiness is a decision – each of us makes our own happiness daily.
