Tell us a little about you and your beloved.
We met 2012 working at Kmart together. After talking and seeing each other for about two months, we went on a late night date at 11 p.m. at Denny’s because that’s when Mo gets off work. Ever since then, we would hang out and go on more dates. We showed each other restaurants around town and ate at so many different places all around Sacramento. We eventually moved in together after six months of dating and have been living together ever since. We added a Westie, Leo, in 2013 and then another Westie, Lana, in 2015. Robert proposed July 11, 2022 at Twin Peaks in San Francisco masking it a detour — “sight seeing” on the way to Japantown. We wanted to get married right away since we were already together 10 years and knew it was the right time. After discussing getting married as soon as possible, we came to May 5th, our actual dating anniversary to keep things simple and easy and it was a Friday. Luckily when we chose Wedgewood at Sterling Hotel, they took a lot of the work from us and supplied us with tools for us to use. The tools included invitations, accessories, they helped with the scheduling, coordinated the day, did the set up and break down of the ceremony and reception, and worked with the vendors when they arrived.
What was the best part of your day?
Mo: For me, getting ready at my lovely friend Mimi’s house with my wedding gift from Robert: a cut-out board of Jin from BTS and then later on bringing him to the Photo Booth and everyone had a blast with Jin!
Robert: Seeing Mo for the first time.
What else would you like to share about your big day?
Mo: My wedding allowed kids because I have a lot of nieces and nephews and they all spent so much time with Robert and I that I could not imagine that day without them. They were a blast and so cute all dressed up and styled! They danced the night away and kept the dance floor busy, and they kept me dancing all night long with no breaks.
Robert: We chose to incorporate a part of Mo’s Hmong culture, where guests come up and tie cotton strings to our wrist and gave us advice for a happy relationship. I loved being able to see and have a conversation with everyone that came, it made it feel like we had a lot of support and that our guests were invested in our marriage.
Advice from the couple:
Mo: Have a good group of people to surround you the day of your wedding and the night before. [It} will make you a much happier bride. Take a break from wedding planning and talking about the wedding from time to time and go to Target, or a nice dinner date or have a cheat meal date.
Robert: The opinions of others surround you, but remember it is only about the two of you so trust yourselves and the decisions you two made.
Anything you would have done differently?
Mo: I would’ve done more photo time. Instead of 6 hours, I would have done 8 hours so I could arrive earlier at the hotel and taken more first look and couples’ shots that I had in mind
Robert: No I accepted what happened that day and I am happy with the outcome.
