Tell us a little about you and your beloved: Kevin and I met about 6 years ago. He had a thing for me, and I thought he was weird and nerdy. So we ended up staying friends for about 4 years.

Then the summer before I graduated from Chico State, I came home for the summer. That nerdy kid somehow developed a manly nerdy charm and one thing led to another and we started dating. A few months into our relationship we knew we had something very, very special. On our one year anniversary Kevin proposed to me via my favorite Comic, F-Minus. For the story, click here!

We were engaged for 8 long months. And now we’ve been married for almost 1 year!

What was the most amazing part of your day? The best part about our wedding day, was that we did it the way we wanted to. We didn’t have a wedding party, father-daughter/mother-son dance, or even bouquet toss. We got married and then had a rocking party for our friends and family. It wasn’t stuffy or traditional — which was exactly the way we wanted it.

What else would you like to share about your big day? We did not have a wedding party, and our officiant was my father-in-law, Bishop Kelly Timpson. So it was great just having the three of us up there as we united our family.

Our reception was also a blast! Our fabulous DJs hosted trivia to be released to the buffet. We used everything from Lord of the Rings to Pink Floyd questions to get everyone warmed up for a night of dancing and good times. In leu of a bouquet toss, since it was made of flowers and antique jewelry as was Kevin’s boutonniere, we gave away prizes. It was raffle style, and we gave away Joy of Socks knitting book, a boomerang, a remote control car, and 2 bottles of sparkling cider.

Our wedding day was amazing. We planned almost everything together, which really pays homage to our relationship. We are a team, he is not your stereotypical snot-bag guy who says, “Just tell me when to show up.”

Any other of your wedding vendor(s) you’d like to call out? All our vendors were fantastic, and I highly suggest all of them. I would especially like to say the folks at Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa were absolutely amazing! Our wedding coordinator Shannon Hall, the sales manager Kathy Cameron, the banquet coordinators, bartenders, and servers all did a fantastic job! Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa gave us a first class experience, and we really appreciate all the hard work of everyone there.

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now? Don’t sweat the small stuff. Your guests are just happy to share your special day with you and will not notice the tiny details that are driving you crazy. Get sleep instead, it will be much better for your mental health.

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance? Our biggest mistake was inviting those people who one of us used to work with and haven’t talked to for 5 years. We figured they wouldn’t come, but gave them a courtesy invite anyway — and they ended up coming. We probably would have taken the cost of their meals and would have put it into decor or something. They probably would never have noticed.
