When Jake planned a trip to Cabo San Lucas in February of 2015, Kayla had no idea this vacation was going to be more than a birthday celebration. “I had no idea that he was going to propose,” she shares. “We had talked a few months before about our lives together and that the engagement would probably happen in the next couple years. Little did I know that when we were having that conversation he had already bought the ring!”

Kayla says she’s still amazed that Jake was able to hide the ring from her and still make it through Mexican Customs without incident. But things didn’t go off entirely without a hitch. “We were supposed to fly out on a Monday but ended up missing our flight which pushed back our whole trip by a day,” she remembers. “When we finally arrived in Cabo, a bus ride to our resort took an hour detour making us miss any kind of decent dinner reservation.”

The couple was lucky enough to secure a late night dinner reservation right outside their resort. “I was finishing curling my hair when Jake asked me to meet him out on the balcony,” she says. “He hugged me, looked into my eyes and started telling me how much he loved me. I remember thinking ‘Why are his eyes so glossy?’” Jake went on to talk about the rest of their lives together, got down on one knee and pulled out the ring box. “He opened it and I burst out, ‘Is this real life?’” she laughs. After a quick “yes,” the couple enjoyed a week in Mexico celebrating each other and their future ahead.

The couple decided on an outdoor rustic wedding. “We also wanted to make sure that the reception was going to be a blast,” says Kayla. “We wanted everyone to dance the whole time…which they did!” Admitting to be a bit of a procrastinator, she notes that the planning wasn’t always easy, but there were some incredible moments, like taking their engagement pictures and booking the venue.

Standing their ground through 20 mph winds, the pair exchanged vows they each wrote on their own. “It was such a special and intimate moment, sharing those promises in front of our closest friends and family,” says the bride.

The party continued at Delta Diamond Farm, where DJ Eddie kept the tunes blasting and the guests moving on the dance floor. “He killed it!” remembers Kayla. “He knew exactly when to play each song we wanted and also took requests as they came. It was definitely a good time!”
