How did you meet?

We met at a small bar in Citrus Heights on April 15, 2016, named Phat Chads. Nicholas walked right up to me when I was sitting at the bar and the rest was history. We instantly hung out the next day and never looked back!

And your engagement?

It was December 15, 2018. We had planned to celebrate Christmas early with my family at my parents’ house. A few of our close friends came up for the day as well. I remember Nick kept complaining that it was lame they were only coming up for the day. My mom wanted to take an ugly Christmas sweater picture down by the river, so all of us went down to the river behind the house. We started to take some pictures and Nick asked me to put my drink down and I was getting annoyed since I didn’t know why it mattered. Well when I finally did, he started to say that he wasn’t buying me kitchen cabinets for Christmas (I wanted to put in a new kitchen and that was my guess for what my gift was) and he started to get down on one knee and I said “Don’t do this again.” ( Seven months after dating, on New Years Eve, with all of Nick’s friends, he fake proposed to me, he called me into the living room with everyone and said, “Kelly I wanted to ask you something…” and started reaching behind his back getting down on one knee and took out his tobacco can and asked if he could take a chew. It was pretty funny since we had no idea that we would be getting married!) Some people started laughing after I said that, but Nick continued on to propose. When I saw the actual ring I instantly started crying and said yes. The pictures and our friends coming up was all to be there for the proposal. It was the best!

How was wedding planning?

I really enjoy party planning so it was fun to do. The worst moment was probably communicating to my parents and groom so that we were all on the same page. My dad did a lot for the wedding: made cornhole boards, dart boards and a outdoor hand washing station. He also did a lot to make the outside of the house look perfect for the wedding. Overall, we wanted it to be simple and for our guest to enjoy themselves.

Any memorable moments?

Our whole group photo. We took a picture with everyone that showed up to our wedding. It’s pretty cool to have that!

What was your favorite detail from the day?

My jewelry. My mom made my bracelet and earrings. I also wore my grandmother’s wedding ring with my other grandmother’s ring.

What was the best part of the day?

Kelly: Finally seeing Nicholas at our first look. After that I was fully relaxed and didn’t have a care in the world.

Nicholas: Finally saying my vows. I knew Kelly would find them funny and I was excited read them.
