Leia and Scott met at a wedding. If that isn’t a good sign, then what is? They tried to spend as much time together as they could, and by the end of the night both felt as if they were right for each other. Scott knew that Leia would want her two sons to be present when he proposed, so he made it a family event and took his parents, sister, brother-in-law, niece, Leia and her two sons on a cruise to Mexico. On formal night, the family had gathered for pictures. When it was Leia and Scott’s turn to have a photo together, Scott interrupted and said that there was something missing. He then nervously pulled a ring out of his jacket pocket, got on one knee while holding Leia’s hand, and asked her to be his wife. Her response was, “Of course!”
Wedding planning began right away. Leia jokingly suggested they have a Harry Potter themed wedding. Scott responded with, “Why not?” and the theme began to take shape. With such a unique theme, many of the details had to be DIY. With the help of friends and family, the couple took on the large task. Above all, they wanted their wedding to be a day where guests not only witnessed their promise to each other, but also got to enjoy all the work they put into creating such a magnificent experience.
The day of the wedding, both Leia and Scott were beaming with excitement. All of the DIY details required a lot of set-up and direction from the couple; however, they did not want to see each other before the ceremony. They set up walkie-talkies and made a game out of avoiding each other. It was frustrating at times, and Leia even found herself hiding for a bit, but overall it was pure fun.
Harry Potter inspired each and every detail: from the aisle runner made from pages of the books to the vows, which included the “Unbreakable Vow” portion from the book as well. As special as the details were, for Leia, having her sons walk her down the aisle, and watching Scott embrace them before he took her hand was the most memorable part of the whole day.
After the wedding, the happy couple was whisked away on a magical honeymoon to the Caribbean; and even spent a day at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida. Leia and Scott are hoping to give the boys a sibling soon. In true Harry Potter fashion, they are calling the hopeful baby, “He Who Must Not be Named.”

Anything else you’d like to share about your wedding?
The paper bouquets were made from actual pages of the book, from books found at Thrift stores or donated. Each flower took 1.5-2 hours to make. There were 285 floating candles made from paper towel holders, hot glue, and white spray paint. Our “craft days” were done at the bride’s best friend’s house, where we drank wine, ate snacks, laughed, and crafted. It was a great time and a great excuse to get together regularly.
Any tips you’d give brides and grooms planning their wedding today?
Make it fun; make it something that speaks to you. Do not do it for other people. Show a lot of patience, and do not take your friends and family for granted. Be grateful. Give yourself time to spend together as a couple, not just planning or picking out table linens, a real date.
Trust your gut. Our wedding planning was made less stressful by picking something that was fun to do and the relaxing time we took to make our creations. No one was required to help, but that made people want to help when they could. Take care of the people around you. After all, they are going to be with you after the wedding is over.
What would you have done differently if you had the chance?
We would have treated the people who helped with lavish gifts. The bride and Maid of Honors had a wonderful Spa day before the wedding, but I wasn’t able to purchase an individual gift for them and their spouses like I would have liked to. They really deserve a vacation where they are pampered to their hearts content. The Groom and Best Men also deserved pampering before and after the wedding. Everyone worked so hard; we would have liked to give back at least a fraction of what they gave us.
