In the long-standing tradition of fated romances, college sweethearts Mackenzie and Colin met in passing through mutual friends thinking they would likely not cross each other’s paths again. Though they lost touch initially, only a few weeks later they learned they had been orbiting each other for weeks attending the same class. Their spark was undeniable and as the years went by their love for each other grew to immeasurable proportions.

While on an adventurous trip through Europe, Colin proposed during a romantic picnic at the Eiffel Tower. Mackenzie says it was picture perfect and “felt like a proposal from the movies.” Just under a year later they were married in a ceremony that is best described as uniquely classic and romantic. Though they kept their wedding within the familiar stylings of traditional nuptials, Mackenzie knew it was more important that their deep passion for each other be reflected in their vows than to follow a format that didn’t quite suit them.

Upon reflection, Mackenzie says one of the most defining moments for her was their exchange of vows during their first look. They chose not to have the moment photographed, instead focusing on the emotions and moment at hand. “That was us deciding to do what was most important to us on our wedding day—enjoying each other,” she explains. The couple omitted other traditions, choosing to have Makenzie’s cousin officiate the wedding instead of a religious officiant, adding in other aspects to their ceremony that felt more authentic to them. “Another unique thing that we did to start off the ceremony was give roses to each other’s parents. We thanked them for raising the people we fell in love with,” Mackenzie highlights.

Considering Mackenzie and Colin had been committed to each other for many years prior to getting married, they wanted their wedding to reflect that well-grounded love to their guests. “Our ceremony consisted of our love story, reasons why we fell in love and what marriage means to us,” she says, and, of course, a heavy dose of celebratory festivities. The bride was able to cultivate a heady atmosphere of sincere emotions and raucous celebration, just as unique and authentic as their love.

Though she says not much has changed in their relationship after marriage, mostly because their life together has been long since established, Mackenzie stresses, “However, we are taking marriage very seriously, and I feel like that has added a sense of maturity and responsibility to our relationship.” They will be honeymooning across Asia soon, adding another adventure to the love and life they share.
