Nancy and Jet met as business majors at California State University, Sacramento. Both shared two consecutive classes together, and on one occasion, left the first class early due to an exam. “She happened to be waiting outside our next class,” Jet remembers. “I decided to have a conversation and worked my magic from there!”

Fast-forward to a trip to Cancun, and the happy couple are celebrating their birthdays together. However, Jet had more on his agenda than a birthday cake for his plus one. Before heading out to dinner on Nancy’s birthday, he asked her to close her eyes and go out to the balcony for a present. “I took the engagement ring and hid it under a gift ribbon and put it on my chest,” Jet shares. “I told her to open her eyes and said, ‘You can have me for the rest of your life.’ She saw the ring and kept asking me, ‘Is this for real?’ After asking me about three or four times I was beginning to think she was stalling the answer. I went down on my knees and asked her to marry me. She gladly accepted!”

Nancy and Jet has a shared vision for their wedding: to make it fun. One of their earliest goals was to find a photo booth, but they knew their friends and family were going to squeeze in as many people as they could into that machine. “We got a photo booth that could comfortably fit up to 18 people!” Nancy says. “It made it so much more fun that a lot of people were able to fit and play around with the props.”

Nancy bravely took on most of the planning herself, and notes things went rather smoothly. “Planning was stressful at times, but it was definitely a fun experience,” she says. “My favorite part was shopping at antique fairs or flea markets for DIY or vintage items.”

On the big day, gloomy skies and wind suddenly cleared for glorious sun—just in time for their ceremony under a 300-year-old oak tree. But even that didn’t settle Jet’s nerves. “I was thinking of saying my vows impromptu, but during the drive to the venue I was nervous about messing it all up,” he remembers. Adds Nancy, “I definitely laughed when Jet pulled out his iPhone to read his vows. That man is glued to his phone!”

Though a short ceremony, it was not without its touching moments. “My favorite part was when I was standing at the end of the aisle and first saw Nancy walk toward me with her mom,” Jet shares. “A range of emotions hit me, but most of all, it was happiness. I tried so hard not to cry but tears came streaming down my face.”

Guests moved on to the reception in the barn at Oak Farm Vineyards. With great food, dancing, a delicious ombre cake and more, the couple struggles to pinpoint just one magical moment of the affair. “The MC opened up the mic to guests that wanted to volunteer for toasts, and the impromptu speeches were definitely memorable,” Nancy says. “I still laugh every time I watch it on video.”

But, perhaps the best was saved for last. “My favorite part of the day was the end,” says the new bride. “Being able to crawl into bed with my husband and reminiscing about the day.”
