How did you meet?
Patty was selling tickets for the rides at a festival in San Francisco. I made a joke, she laughed and smacked my arm and that was pretty much it. I realized this beautiful woman might be interested in me, so I asked if she wanted to hang out at a bonfire on the beach later. She said she would be working late into the night but gave me her phone number. I called her later, and we ended up on the phone for like six hours. I felt like I’d known her forever. Lucky me; five years later, I asked her to marry me and she said yes!
Tell us about your engagement.
I had bought her ring weeks before asking in August of 2018. I carried it with me everywhere because I wanted to ask her when the time felt right. We were on our way to work on a farm for the weekend which was our routine side hustle and ended up getting turned around because the CA fires were blocking our route. We went home, got our beach gear and went to Ocean Beach for the day. Patty bought wine and everything felt perfect so I mustered up the courage to ask and she said yes.
How did COVID affect your wedding?
We cancelled our original date of May 23, 2020 with 35 guests and later decided we still wanted to get married in 2020 no matter what. It worked out beautifully. Our closest friends and my sister were there which was very intimate without stress. It was just a very sweet, loving, and fun day.
How did wedding planning go?
Planning went okay. Took some time to realize what we actually wanted. We didn’t want to leave our family out but we also really wanted to get married at one of our favorite and most memorable places. It was a hike that most of our family would have had a hard time getting to, so that part was a little hard. Both of our families were very understanding and made it easy for us to stick to our decision. COVID certainly put a wrench in our plans but it actually worked out better than we thought it would.
How would you describe the ceremony?
Our ceremony was full of love and so much fun. My best friend married us and our closest friends were there to support our commitment. The place we got married was where we had one of our most memorable backpacking trips. There’s no where else we would have rather been, to vow our love and commitment to each other.
Any memorable moments?
The entire day was a blast. We will remember the tough hike and the crazy air quality, with our amazing friends who carried up our tent and metal posts to create an arch for us to marry under. They did all the hard work so we didn’t ruin our hair and makeup. We are so lucky to have the friends that we do.
