How did you meet your fiancé( e )? Every time anyone asks us this question, Chris and I usually look at each other and chuckle. Then we proceed to saying, “Oh we met through friends” and that would be it. But only select few knew the real way we met. However, Chris and I have decided we want to come clean because we don’t want to go into our marriage with a “lie” about how we met. So here goes…
Chris and I met almost 11 years ago on AOL chat room. That’s right, we met before there was even a thought about Match.com or eHarmony.com. We were only 17 and 19 years old then. The reason why we kept it a secret was simply because we were so young and it wasn’t the safest way of meeting people. We didn’t want our families to worry or be upset.
Our first actual meeting in person was at Arden mall where I used to work and we went to watch Lord of the Rings (part 1). And ever since then we’ve never been apart. Regardless of where or how we met, I know it was our destiny to meet. Even if we didn’t meet online, I am pretty sure our fates would have paved a way for us to meet.
How was the question popped? Chris and I enjoy wine tasting and we absolutely LOVE going to Napa. Last Christmas, his parents got us, along with his brother and his girlfriend, tickets to go on the wine train. We went in April and he popped the question right before we boarded the train.
The funny part was, I was so shocked and embarrassed that I actually hid behind a barrel for a minute while he waited on one bended knee. I knew he was going to pop the question one day but I didn’t think it would be in front of hundreds of people waiting to board the train. Video of me hiding behind a barrel was quite funny to watch. LOL
What type of wedding are you planning? Dish all the details! Since our wedding will be during autumn, we are planning on having a fall theme. Additionally, Chris loves baseball so he wants to title our wedding as the “Fall Classic” which is actually the nickname for MLB World Series. We don’t want the entire wedding to be too “baseball” or too “Halloween” of course. But we do want to incorporate baseball and all the beautiful aspects of fall (pumpkins, maple leaves, etc). Since wedding is a year away, we still have plenty of time to work on the details but as of right now we just have the blue print of our ideas.
If money were no object, what would be your one splurge at your wedding? Chris and I would love to have a destination wedding in Malaysia. However, Chris has a huge family which would make this impossible. Therefore if I could splurge I would love to pay for all their travel expenses. Or pay for travel expenses of all my childhood friends in Malaysia to come to my wedding in US.
Are there any questions you would like to ask other engaged couples, newlyweds or wedding vendors? Ask them here and readers will leave comments for you below! I love planning events. Therefore, a month after Chris proposed, I had already set the date and booked all the essential vendors (ceremony, reception, DJ/MC/Lighting, photographer, videographer and florist). So as of right now I do not have any specific questions. BUT!! I am sure I will have tons once wedding draws near.
