Tahoe Wedding Inspiration: In the Clouds {Get to Know}

What made you want to enter the contest and model for this photo shoot?

I was encouraged by a friend to enter the contest. I knew it’d be a fun creative experience, a chance to be pampered, and a unique way to commemorate the whole wedding experience!

What was your favorite part of modeling?

Wearing a variety of dress styles I never would have picked for myself! It was especially fun to see how the Real Weddings team assembled a cohesive look – from dress to hair to set style.

What was your favorite part of this shoot? Did you relate to the concept?

My favorite part of the shoot were the florals. The big bright bouquets really tied the whole thing together. The shoot concept was unexpected in the best way – a great juxtaposition of old and new, rural and urban.

What do you do for a living?

I am a medical speech pathologist.

What do you do for fun?

Cook, read, bike, true crime marathons with my husband and cats, visit friends. I’m now trying my hand at lettering art.

Tell us about your love story. How did you meet?

My future husband lived in the neighboring apartment to mine. Yes – literally, the boy next door! We gradually bonded over our similar experiences and shared love of animals, reading, wine tasting, and discussing a myriad range of ideas, big and small.

What was the proposal like?

We hiked Pena Adobe trail in Vacaville on a warm October morning. At the peak, while unpacking his camera equipment, and conveniently already kneeling, my fiancé revealed a beautiful ring he’d hidden in the camera bag and popped the question! It happened so quickly and of course, it was a surprise! The best part was we didn’t share the news with anyone until later that night, so it felt extra special and intimate.

Tell us about your own wedding.

We tied the knot on the first official day of fall, my favorite season, at Arden Hills Club & Spa in Sacramento. We celebrated with about 200 of our closest friends and family, many of whom traveled from all corners of the continental United States.

Our wedding combined both traditional elements and modern whimsical touches. My fiancé, a graphic designer, made our invitation, which included an illustration of two houses side by side with the Sacramento skyline in the backdrop. This sweet customized illustration was featured on most of our stationary and signage throughout the wedding day.

Appropriately, our wedding hashtag was #lovethyneighbor. Our officiant was the same minister who married my parents over 30 years ago. Another favorite feature was our favors: honey jars from the local “Bee Box” in East Sacramento.

If you could offer any advice to future brides, what would it be?

Savor the process and enjoy the details, but focus on the big picture – you’re marrying the love of your life!
