Couple #3…Lindsay Sasaki & Trevor Longman

Why should you win the Sunset Whitney Country Club’s Classic Wedding of a Lifetime Contest?

Four years ago, Lindsay and Trevor met on the UC Davis football field while cheering on the Aggies.  Since then, they became best friends, agonized over engineering midterms, fell in love, ran half-marathons, experienced the torture of the Giants, carved the peaks of Tahoe, taught Sunday school and started careers.

When Trevor asked Lindsay to marry him at the top of Half Dome in Yosemite, they began yet another exciting chapter in their lives.  They now have the opportunity to win the wedding of their dreams and would love to share this unforgettable experience with their family and friends.

When and how did you meet?

In early September of 2006, I was eager to be a part of the UC Davis Aggie Pack, which is the largest student run spirit organization in the country. It was at the first UC Davis football game that I first met Lindsay. She was working as an intern for the Aggie Pack and was the leader of the SWAT team. Her role was to ensure that her CO2 powered t-shirt cannons were being properly used by the SWAT team. I instantly knew that I wanted to be a part of this team and get to know her a little bit more. Little did I know, I had found the love of my life.

How did you know that you were meant to be a couple?

Lindsay and I immediately hit it off in our first few conversations. Not only were we both super smart engineers, but we share a passion for sports, Giants baseball, and food. Our conversations became more in depth with time, and we soon found that our ideologies and just the way we think were identical. We shared similar religious and political views. With the Aggie Pack and our engineering school work to keep us involved with each other, it seemed like almost no time until we were in a very happy relationship. Within three months of being together, Lindsay and I shared our first “I love you” and meant every bit of it.

What is your favorite characteristic about your spouse-to-be?

Lindsay: My favorite characteristic of Trevor is his ability to make me laugh, whether I want to or not. It may involve telling a joke, making a funny face, or tickling me until I pee my pants, he can always manage to put a smile on my face.

Trevor: My favorite characteristic of Lindsay is her drive. From the moment I met her, I could see that Lindsay would follow through on anything she set her mind to. I’ve seen her wake up at 5am on weekdays to go on a run or go through hundred of job posting to find the perfect engineering job. In all cases, I have seen her succeed and I am really excited to see this characteristic continue to take her through life.

Tell us about your proposal. When did it happen, how did it happen?

Immediately after we both graduated from UC Davis in December of 2009, I knew that the next chapter of my life would include Lindsay as my fiancée. It was at her graduation party that our two mutual best friends and I decided that I should propose. However, I knew that I couldn’t just settle on a proposing at a fancy restaurant or a nice sunset walk. Instead, I decided that our close group of friends should climb Half Dome at Yosemite and that I should propose there. After 6 months of planning the trip, asking her Dad, buying her dream ring, and climbing all 8,836 feet on August 14th, 2010, I found myself in tears as I told Lindsay that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. After she nodded and gave a shaky “yes” through all the tears, I knew at that moment that we were the happiest people in the world.

Why should we pick you to win the Sunset Whitney Country Club’s Classic Wedding of a Lifetime Contest?

With the economy at an all-time low, and Lindsay and I hoping for the most amazing wedding ever to celebrate our love for each other, we would be extremely grateful as the winners of the Wedding of a Lifetime Contest. We want to be able to invite family and friends to celebrate this day for us while still keeping a budget. With this financial help, Lindsay and I would then be able to focus our finances on a car, house, travelling, and little Trevor and Lindsay’s in the future. With most of our family in Northern California, Sunset Whitney Country Club would be an ideal location for our wedding. Contest or not, Lindsay and I were very excited about this venue and the possibility of celebrating there with all of our family and friends.
