Dark & Moody Halloween Inspired Wedding: Style Files {Strelitzia Flower Company}

“Inspiration can come from anywhere, but for this shoot, it was our sister store J&D Wholesale’s Assistant Manager, Jenn, and her love of all things Halloween, Disney and Nightmare Before Christmas. Plus, a little bit of her incredible dreadlocks and my real need to put a flower crown on a skull!

We wanted to create something that had hints of them all without being overly themed. Our goal was dark, but beautiful and defined. Courtyard D’Oro was the perfect venue with architecture that imparted the gothic feel of the New Orleans-inspired Haunted Mansion. Our main focus was on beautiful textures: linens of velvet and lace from WeDo Designs, the high glam of the mirrored tables from Sacramento Event Co., the black velvet gown and that damask coat from Second Summer Bride.

For flowers, we focused again on texture. Dark roses and dahlias, with lots of hanging amaranthus to continue the spooky feel. Black mini calla lilies added accents of black, as did anemone. Pops of lighter and brighter tones–calcynia, ranunculus and silver brunia allowed us to achieve a defined look–with all darker tones, it can be easy to lose the individual flower and we didn’t want that to happen. We incorporated a lot of hanging amaranthus and mossy sticks to achieve the appropriately spooky feel.”
