Real Weddings Cover Model Finalist: Skye Holliday {Beautiful Works of Art}

Welcome back to our blog series from our cover model finalists photo shoot, “Beautiful Works of Art,” from the current Winter/Spring 2014 issue of Real Weddings Magazine.

In this installment, you get to know a little bit more about cover model finalist Skye Holliday! Could the camera love her any more? Not only is this young woman drop dead gorgeous, but she’s one of the sweetest people we know! She cracked us up on our shoot…in many of her photos, it looked like she was laughing the whole time, but it was really the crew behind-the-scenes that she was entertaining, and we love her for that! Like Karmen and Anne, we absolutely adore Skye and are so honored that she is one of our cover model finalists for this issue of Real Weddings Magazine.

So without further ado, we present our Real Weddings Magazine Cover Model Finalist, Skye Holliday!

Why she wanted to enter this contest: When she first heard about the contest, Skye didn’t think that it was for her, but a close friend who has been on the cover of Real Weddings herself, insisted that Skye enter. After now going through the experience, Skye could not be more grateful for her friend’s encouragement.

Her love story: Though against online dating, Skye eventually gave in to the craze. She happened upon her now-husband Bryan’s profile even though they weren’t actually “matched.” She found him incredibly handsome and loved what he had to say in his profile. After a week of many phone conversations, the two eventually met in person and they both instantly knew that there was real potential for a relationship.

During a vacation in Italy, Bryan stepped away from Skye momentarily to make a call to a friend. Turns out that “friend” was Skye’s father and Bryan was calling to ask for his permission to propose to Skye. Bryan then returned to Skye and they took a romantic gondola ride. On the ride, Bryan asked Skye, “Is this the perfect moment?” Skye then had an idea of what was coming next, but still couldn’t believe that Bryan was down on one knee. She thinks she managed to squeeze out “Yes” between tears.

Their wedding day: The special day took place at the Citizen Hotel. The ceremony was officiated by a dear friend and both Skye and Bryan were blown away by the time he took to make the ceremony so touching and personal. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails while the wedding party took photos, and shortly after the cocktail-style reception began on the terrace. The joyous day was filled with the traditional memories of a wedding, but some of the hiccups of the day made the best memories: Skye’s veil blowing away in the wind and ending up at a tamale festival; the flower girl falling and landing like a starfish between Skye and Bryan at the ceremony; and probably the most memorable mishap of the day was the hairline fracture a bridesmaid received when going against a 70-year-old guest for the bouquet. Skye and Bryan truly had a magical day filled with great moments and fun stories to last a lifetime.

What Bryan thought about the cover model contest: Bryan seemed a bit indifferent about Skye entering the contest, but with each step closer she got, his excitement grew. When she called to tell him that she was one of the three finalists, he said, “Baby, this is just one more thing that is going to make this time so memorable for us.” And according to Skye, he was right!

Her “cover model” experience: The word that Skye uses to best describe her experience is “Fun!” The application process was nerve-wracking—especially the wait to find out if she became a finalist—but looking back, Skye says the anticipation was part of what made the experience so special. The photo shoot took place just six days before her wedding, so an already exciting time became even more memorable. Skye loved working with the Real Weddings team and experimenting with different looks. Though tired by the end, she says that it was all worth it. It’s an experience that she will always treasure.
