Tell us a little about you and your beloved.

Sammi and Agung’s love story started when they were both in college. During the tail-end of the Spring semester of their sophomore year, Sammi, a Business Administration major at SSU, and Agung, an Accounting major set on transferring to Santa Barbara, scheduled separate meetings with the “Godfather” of the SSU Accounting program, Joseph Standridge. Unbeknownst to them at the time, the meeting with Joe was the catalyst for their paths crossing and the stars aligning. The following Fall, Sammi and Agung started their journey as Accounting majors and as complete strangers. In the Fall of 2014, Sammi and Agung started their interview process for Summer internships in San Francisco and quickly became friends as they interviewed for many of the same accounting firms. By the end of the Fall semester, they both accepted an internship offer at the same company. Through countless hours of enjoying each other’s company and finding every excuse to be around one another (pretending to study for accounting exams at the library), Agung knew that Sammi was special. Agung thought that the yearning of what could be and the impending feeling of regret, far outweighed the risk of ruining their friendship. In millennial speak, Agung risked it all. On April 16, 2015, Agung asked Sammi to be his girlfriend. After six wonderful years of adventures, six countries explored, four apartments, and one beautiful fur baby, Agung proposed to Sammi on April 16, 2021, back where it first started in Sonoma County.

What was the best part of your day?

The ceremony. It was the beginning of a new chapter as husband and wife and being able to see the love radiating from our family and friends was so special. We also had our accounting professor (mentioned above) as our officiant. [It] meant so much to us.

What else would you like to share about your big day?

Another special part of our day was incorporating our favorite movie, Up. We had little nods to the movie like having postcards of all of the countries we’ve explored together as our guestbook, a mailbox to store the signed postcards, and our vows included themes in the movie. Since my husband and I come from different cultures, we added some decorations that showcased his culture. We handed out Balinese Fans and his aunt made a traditional Balinese offering that sat near the arch.

Advice from the couple:

Remember to take a step back and really be in the moment. The day goes by way too quickly.
