Sacramento Wedding Inspiration: Uptown Girls {Get to Know Torrey} SummerFall18

We had a blast working with Torrey as a Cover Model Contest Photo Shoot finalist on our Uptown Girls photo shoot. She was constantly smiling and laughing which made our long and tiring day totally worth it! Below, find out about Torrey’s Disneyland proposal, and how she liked modeling for us!

Why did you enter this contest?

When I was growing up, I was the biggest tomboy. You’d never see me in a dress and I almost never wore makeup. This lasted until I turned 24, right around the time when I got my first “real” job. Then, I morphed into the biggest girly girl! I love getting dressed up and putting on makeup now. I am also a self-proclaimed selfie queen. To get a chance to get dressed up and have fun taking pictures all day – I didn’t want to miss the chance to do it!

What do you do for a living?

I work for VSP Global in their Global Corporate Communications division. I’m on their Enterprise Communications team.

What do you do for fun?

Anything and everything! Everyone who knows both my fiancé and I know that on any given weekend, we’ll definitely be out doing something. I love volunteering and I also love traveling. But most of all, I really love being around and doing things with my fiancé. We both have outgoing personalities so it’s wonderful to get to spend the rest of my life with someone who shares the same zest for life as me.

Tell us your love story.

I met Leroy through the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program and we were friends for three years before we started dating.

The way Leroy proposed to me was truly unforgettable. I am a HUGE Disney fan and any chance I get I’m trying to scheme my way on another trip to a Disney park. Leroy pulled off the surprise proposal of a lifetime. He told me he had a conference to attend in Anaheim and we could go to Disneyland while we were there. Of course, I jumped at the chance to go. As we were heading into the park that morning, I had the feeling he was going to propose so I looked in the bag he was carrying as we were going through security. There was no ring! I was so irritated and I couldn’t believe he brought me to Disneyland and wasn’t going to propose. Later that day, unbeknownst to me, Leroy had sent a friend a text message to send back to him at 4 p.m. that day saying that a reservation at Club 33 had opened up and we were welcome to take it. Of course I jumped at the chance because going to Club 33 is on my bucket list. Leroy said he had to go “register for his conference,” and that he would meet me in front of the park. While I was primping, he snuck the ring out of the room and took it to Club 33, where the whole staff was in on it. After being seated at Club 33, our waiter suggested we head out to the balcony to enjoy the view before drinks. While we were out there, Leroy made a reference to my favorite Disney princess – Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. He said I had to kiss quite a few frogs before I got to him and asked me if he could be my prince for the rest of his life. I laughed and said “Why? Because you got me into Club 33?” He shook his head and said “No, that’s not what I meant Torrey…” So I asked him what he did mean and he got down on one knee, pulled out a box, and I started screaming. I didn’t even hear him ask me to marry him the first time. He had to ask a second time and of course I said, “Yes!” My engagement ring even has two hidden Mickeys in it – something all big Disney fans have loved every time I show the ring.

How did I know that Leroy was the one? It truly snuck up on me. I didn’t even realize it until one day when we were watching TV. He has this huge, loud laugh that he’s never afraid to do. I watched him smile and laugh at the movie we were watching and then turn to look at me. When I looked at the twinkle in his eyes and the way they crinkled up at the sides, I knew I was done. I could literally see how much he loved me and it was the most wonderful feeling. I was hooked and I knew I was going to marry this man.

Tell us about your wedding day.

We are getting married on July 29, 2018 on the Big Island in Hawaii at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. July 29 is the date of our first date (which was a Boston Red Sox game.) I’ve always loved Hawaii and I adore the ocean, so getting married in Hawaii at this resort was the perfect combination of both worlds. The moment I’m most looking forward to is seeing Leroy’s face as I come down the aisle. And I can’t wait to reunite with my best friends from college as they are also serving as bridesmaids, along with my sisters and one of Leroy’s sisters.

People have always said that Leroy and I look so happy together, so I am hoping our guests say they’ve never seen a couple more in love than us. Leroy makes me happier than any other guy I’ve ever dated, and my friends tend to say how my face glows when I’m with Leroy. I hope that our joy on our wedding day is contagious and everyone leaves feeling a renewed sense of believing in love.

What did your husband/fiancé think about you entering this contest? What did he say when you became a finalist? What did you think about yourself when you were selected?

When I told Leroy I was entering this contest, he was excited and said he wasn’t surprised, as he knows how much I love getting dressed up and doing my makeup. He was super excited when I was selected as a finalist – and hoped that meant he could hop into a few shots at the shoot! We love capturing our lives together through photos and we’ve taken more than a few hilarious shots.

When I was selected, I couldn’t believe that it was actually happening. It wasn’t until I was trying on dresses for the shoot that I finally allowed myself to believe I was a finalist. It was hard waiting for the actual shoot because I was so excited! And I absolutely love The Citizen Hotel (we actually took our engagement photos there), so I couldn’t believe I’d have the opportunity to actually get dressed up in wedding dresses there as well.

Tell us about your cover model experience.

The application process was super easy and I really loved my interview. Wendy and the staff were all so nice so it made it very easy to share my love story with Leroy. My favorite part of the day was shooting in the Scandal Bar. It’s always been one of my favorite features of the hotel. I love the lighting in there and the vibe the red walls give. The decorations were amazing and I feel like the pictures from this part of the shoot must look spectacular! When the day came to an end, I wished the shoot could’ve gone longer! I had so much fun throughout the day that I wished I could’ve come back the next day to do it all again. I had a blast and I definitely encourage any one who may be considering it to apply. You won’t be disappointed and you’ll have a blast!
